WOW, if this was around when I was born. Think of the possibilities. Man, do newborns have it rough! I mean, when was the last time you went down a birth canal? #Brutal. Really though - babies need a GD break.
Luckily, there's a way for newborns to relax when hours between naps seem to stretch on like days: They can visit Baby Spa, which recently opened a new outpost in Perth, Australia.
A typical Baby Spa session lasts about an hour and includes anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes of casual floating in a warm bath. Babies wear a special floatation device that safely supports the head above water and makes the whole thing look extra adorable.
The treatments aren't just supremely calming. Turns out, they're borderline medicinal, at least according to the Baby Spa's website. See, in water, young babies can do ~*mAgIcAl*~ things they can't yet manage on land because their itty-bitty bodies aren't strong enough, and gravity's a bitch. However, floating (aka hydrotherapy) gives the arms and legs freedom to move, which is said to promote physical, emotional, and mental development. (There is some clinical evidence that neonatal swimming can accelerate a newborn's growth.)
After floating, each spa baby is wrapped in a warm towel wrap before receiving a gentle massage using South Africa grape seed oil.
Although Baby Spa doesn't offer spa treatments specifically for moms and dads, parents still stand to benefit: That's because they accompany their babies throughout the entire experience, which means they're privy to the facilities designed for humans of all ages to zen TF out. And in an environment devoid of everyday stressors, you and your baby can basically bond double-time. (See, everyone wins!)
While Baby Spa's Australian location is new, the franchise has several other locations across the pond in the U.K., Spain, and South Africa, and then there's Float Baby, a separate entity based in Houston, Texas. Depending on where you go, a baby's hydrotherapy and massage session can cost anywhere from about $64 for a 60-minute group session to $250 for a private session.
Can you imagine a more perfect first-ever birthday gift?
